News in summary


NSW Nurses and Midwives Board elections have been held and Rebecca Roseby has been re-elected by a vast majority of the vote.Rebecca is dedicated to pursuing the interest of enrolled nurses in NSW and beyond so for any enquiries regarding your advancement possibilities, Rebecca can be contacted here .

Stephen Brand has also regained his position on the Board as the ministerial nominee.

NB. All state regulatory nursing boards may be abolished in 2008 in line with COAG recommendations for a national board to be established. 


A new "partnership" for enrolled nurses seeking casual employment options has been agreed upon by ENPA NSW and Global Advantage.
Global Advantage realise the importance and value of enrolled nurses in health care and as part of an incentive program agreed to by both organisations all enrolled nurses sucessfully joining this agency will receive a multitude of benefits including the current year of membership to ENPA paid upon joining the agency, a cash award given to an outstanding TEN on graduation and a scholarship for an enrolled nurse to attend the annual state conference.

Other benefits from Global Advantage available to ENs and RNs include the opportunity to take rural or Australia wide engagements on a short term basis (usually a minimum of 3 months)

 A new Patron for the Association after 10 years absence
ENPA NSW are proud to announce the acceptance of a patron of the association. Dr Christine Manwarring accepted the invitation from the association with the response, "what an honour to be given the role of Patron of the association and one which I accept proudly..." More details on our patron can be accessed from the patron link at left.


 A new process for applying to become a Trainee Enrolled Nurse
Application forms for the Trainee Enrolled Nurse course in the public system are now available directly from NSW Health and will be processed by NSW Health. The application form can be downloaded from this link.

A new Chief Nurse in NSW
Deborah Thoms is the newly appointed Chief Nurse in NSW Health replacing Ms Kathy Baker. ENPA congratulate Ms Thoms on her appointment and look forward to the quarterly meetings held by arrangement as held with previous chief nursing officers.

Complacency in Medication Management
ENPA NSW would like to inform all Endorsed Enrolled Nurses of the implications of complacency in medication management. It has now been almost 2 years since the first breed of medication authorised ENs entered the work place, after a period of time in performing this function the urgency to check adequately sometimes decreases and complacency creeps into practice .

Position Statement - Enrolled Nurses in specialised units.
ENPA have produced a position statement on ENs working in specialised units and high acuity areas. The paper was widely distributed in draft form to industry leaders, employers and members of the profession. The position statement will reflect the views of ENPA NSW with consideration of our members needs and educational requirements to perform as safe clinicians.

Annual Conference 2007
Conference this year will be held at Panthers in Penrith NSW. The theme of this years conference is "Enrolled Nurses - Flying High" and signifies the changes and respect that have occurred for enrolled nurses in recent years. Conference registration for those wishing to attend will be available in mid March

Conference will be held in September with highlights including the welcome reception as a barbeque along the river front and conference dinner to be announced. Guest speakers will include enrolled nurse specialists, our Patron and the opening by the Chief Nurse of NSW, Ms Deborah Thoms.
