The Enrolled Nurse Professional Association are the peak consultative body for enrolled nursing in NSW.

Become an Enrolled Nurse

Changes to accreditation as an Enrolled Nurse are currently being discussed at State/Territory/Commonwealth level in order to achieve consistency across Australia. Basically at present to become an Enrolled Nurse you need to complete an enrolled nurse program which may involve in NSW, study at a TAFE college or other provider and employment in a hospital.

What qualifications do I need?

To apply for a position as a Trainee Enrolled Nurse you will need to complete an application form, available from the Nursing and Midwifery Office, NSW Department of Health (note: this form is currently being reviewed and will be available soon).

To be eligible for employment as a Trainee Enrolled Nurse in NSW you will need the followiing:-

a current Workcover approved first aid certificate;

and

satisfactory completion of the Higher School Certificate (HSC) within the last three years with advanced or standard English at HSC level, or English as a second language at HSC level and satisfactory completion of Year 10 standard Maths, or if HSC subjects are not at the required levels, successful completion of the Numeracy and Literacy Test developed for entry to the course (see ww.nursing.aust.edu.au); Further information is available from www.nursing.aust.edu.au

or if over 20 years of age

Adult (mature age) entry and successful completion of the Numeracy and Literacy Test developed for entry to the course, see www.nursing.aust.edu.au

or if under 20 years of age without an HSC

Hold an appropriate accredited Certificate III qualification and successful completion of the Numeracy and Literacy Test developed for entry to the course, see www.nursing.aust.edu.au

Changes to the application process have now been implemented by NSW Health. Numeracy & Literacy Test

Information about the Numeracy and Literacy Test is available from The College of Nursing website at www.nursing.aust.edu.au. It is important that you apply for the Numeracy & Literacy test early to avoid the disapointment of not passing the test in time for your application

 

Enrolled Nurses undertake training from 12 months to 2 years in length receiving a certificate or diploma depending on the state.

 

  • A certificate IV course

  • Diploma Course

  • and Advanced Diploma

Is currently being planned to allow consistency in training. More information can be obtained from here
